Western Churches

Western Churches
This term is generically applied to the Churches that evolved in the western part of the former Roman Empire after the schism between the Eastern Orthodox Churches and the Roman Catholic Church in 1054. This schism was followed by further divisions at the time of the Protestant Reformation, so the expression "Western Churches" includes a wide diversity of ecclesiastical, liturgical, and theological traditions.
